End of the Pride? |
Lead | |
|
According to the Nashua Telegram, the owner has placed the Pride for sale after suffering losses of $500,000 this season. Consider me skeptical; I'd love
to see for once an owner opening the books to the public to PROVE the team has suffered big losses. Instead, the usual playbook was employed, blaming the fans
for not coming out in the numbers that they do in Lowell and Manchester (which just smacks of jealousy to me on the part of the owner). If the team really is
drawing 1,500+ fans a game, as the Can-Am League site claims, this team shouldn't be losing money unless its ownership was spending cash like a drunken
sailor.

I think it might be time to stick a fork in it... I thank John Stabile for what he did, I always appreciated that despite all their problems, the Pride always performed pretty well on the field. Let's not forget that while they won two Championships, they lost two Atlantic League finals to the Somerset Patriots. I'll also take a few whacks that while the Pride seem to have enough staff on hand, I never thought the customer service was very crisp or professional. Just because you are the little guy, does not automatically equate to superior service. The "free" season ticket situation could have been handled better. I'd love to see the Lowell All-Americans of the NECBL jump into Holman. Alumni Field has rickety bleachers and the team often has to spend the first 10 days on the road due to tournament use. Nashua would be a nice haven for NECBL baseball and it would be possibly the nicest facility in the league. and then when that doesn't work out, we could maybe go to professional wiffleball.... kidding |

End of Pride | ||

Looks like there is some good news. New ownership group headed by Nokona Athlectic Goods, Inc top official Buddy Lewis and former general manager of the Red
Sox Dan Duquette are making a bid to buy the Pride and keep them in Nashua. They plan on having a military connection and likely will name the team "The
American Defenders of Nashua" Go to Nashuatelegraph.com for details on this offer.
The bad news is that Dan Duquette is involved. He did a bad job during his tenure with the Red Sox as General Manager. Also the team being renamed. I like the name "Pride" Lets hope this deal goes through and Nashua keeps a profession team. |

Wa, wa, Wait a minute... Dan runs the New England Collegiate Baseball league.... He isn't interested in moving the team out of the can-am and into that, is
he?

Nope. Duquette is just the president of the Pittsfield Dukes. As for Dan Duquette's achievements as the Sox GM, let the uninformed read this:

Don't think there is a need to create a new nickname, but as long as there is pro ball at Holman, that's a good thing. |

Agreed. American Defenders is just pure pandering and from a marketing standpoint, it'd be idiotic to create a nickname that will create confusion as to whether the team is professional or the baseball equivalent of the Blue Angels. |

I just think it's an odd name. I don't think they've done any research as to whether people would respond to it or, whether military all star games would be of interest to the community. It's also too close to the CT Defenders, who play the Fishercats about 20 times a year. The park is in a residential neighborhood and they've grappled with the Pride in the past over fireworks, so I'm not sure concerts would be all that welcome. That said, I like the Pittsfield Dukes logo and website, looks more pro than anything the Pride have ever done... |

Wow Rapidz, We hardly knew ye. The Can-Am League website has also quietly erased all evidence that they ever existed. I wonder who the league will have take
their place. Lets hope no another travel team.
