Don't know much about him, sounds like he may have a little speed for the league. They list him as a combo infielder/outfielder, which suggests he may be versatile. I also note that Zach Smithlin will be back again this year. It is hard to believe that he has become the leader in many of their hitting longevity records with the number of years he has been with the team. I like his D in the OF. Looks like they are building a team with some guys who can move around the bases. Hmmm... now we need to re-sign Sandy Madera.

He's been blocked at 1B and almost all his AB's last season were at DH. It is interesting to see how many Carolina League flameouts have gone on to the Can-Am League and vice-versa.

Spearman seems to have experience at 3B, though he played most of his games in the OF last year. I wonder what's going in Joe C's mind. Lots of time to put together the pieces to the 2008 Jackals puzzle. Enjoy the winter folks.

Posts: 20 (02/17/08 06:47:12) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	I don't know anything about that guy. I did see that the Jackals claimed Tim Bausher off waivers from Nashua. He had pretty good numbers last year: 3.09 ERA and a .210 batting average against. He did walk too many (37 in 58.3 innings), but looks like a good player in this league. I wonder what classification he is. I also see where the Jackals traded Wilton Veras to the Pensacola Pelicans of the American Association. I hope he does well there, he was certainly a nice guy... but his performance had clearly eroded to the point last season where he was a liability both in the field and at the plate (for a veteran spot). Maybe the change of scenery will be good for him. How many days until the first game?

Haven't see you on these boards for awhile. 95 more days to Opening Day for the Jackals and 102 until our first game at the Yog- May 29th. Bausher is an LS-3 so he can be with us for a while before he gets to vet status. See you in 102.

Posts: 1 (02/21/08 17:22:34) Reply Quote More My Recent Posts	If I remember right (and that's a big if), Bausher's contract was sold to the Brewers in the middle of the fourth inning here in Pittsfield when he played for the Black Bears. It was his only home start. When he was pulled from the game, those of us in the stands were mystified. Of course, by the end of the season it seemed like the Black Bears had sold all the original starting rotation's contracts.

He was blowing them away... and we were pleased when he got taken out. Maybe I am thinking of someone else, but I thought it was him. I see we apparently signed a LHP Brandon Martin. Curiously, his stats from Butte in the Pioneer league listed him as a hitter. His stats weren't too impressive at the plate: .246 avg 1 HR and only 4 doubles. He did swipe 11 bags and had 23 walks to 40 Ks... which isn't horrible for this league. Maybe that is why he is trying his hand at hurling. 84 Days until opening day ! ... The Mayor is a non-roster invitee at Dodgerland this spring. He played in today's game against the Mets but didn't get a hit. After the lousy time he had in winter ball this year, I'm not surprised. Counting down the days to the end of tax season and the beginning of Jackals baseball.

He has been a great pitcher for the Jackals and looking forward to his return in June has become an annual event the last couple of years. He is the type of player that everyone who follows this level of baseball demonstrates exactly what makes the game great. He was a guy who didn't have the greatest tools, but he knew how to play the game, and he had heart and drive. I wish him and his family my best wishes........ and I can't wait until they retire Number 28 along side Yogi's Number 8. Trumpet Guy

I was just wondering, since some of you guys have been more up on this than I have over the last six or so months...now that Joe Ameruoso left the Jackals, what does that mean for the games being broadcast? Are they not going to be doing that anymore, or have they hired someone to take over the job? (If not, I'd like to try...why the hell not? I bugged Joe quite a bit about getting into said booth...)

From a pitching standpoint, we know that Isaac Pavlic and Mike Vacaro are in the rotation for sure. I suspect that Corwin Malone will be too. That leaves two spots up for grabs. I think that the relief pitching should be a strength (assuming the guys we currently have don't get signed away by the affiliated's) with Tom Atlee, Hunter Davis and Rusty Tucker. As for the position players, we will just have to see as to the infield. Losing Sandy Madera in the lineup hurts. We know three of the five outfielders, and two of them are small, but have speed and can play good-D. The infielders are the big question mark. If a couple of these guys can be consistent performers, they should be a pretty formidable team. Trumpet Guy
